Gombrich </span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}"> </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="auto"> Using the meditation of painting and stitch, Abbie interprets microscopic images of her autoimmune illness, Membranous Nephropathy. However, the depictions of disease, traditionally seen as ugly or destructive, are transformed into multilayered reimagined representations. Her works are paradoxical; uncovering colour and beauty in the hidden details of diseased cells.   </span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}"> </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="auto">The development of the work led to a focus on a process of alchemical art, using unconventional oil painting methods and textiles to create new depths on the canvas surface. She reclaims a system that was historically used to oppress women in art, using textile techniques to symbolise ideas of healing. The needle punctures and mends the canvas, like stitches in skin, whilst the repetition and domesticity of the material provides connotations of meditation, rest, and home. Abbie reconstructs her own memories surrounding autoimmune illness through the formation of organic shapes and patterns, exploring binaries of form, colour, and texture.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}"> </span></p>
