Cerys is a mixed media sculptor who creates wearable artwork inspired by the natural environment and fungal ecosystems.

Their practice encourages playfulness by using volunteers to dress in the wearables and through the materials used to create the sculptures. Due to the connection with the body, wearable art changes the way people move and interact with each other, themselves, and the surroundings. Cerys’ project works to encourage you to take the time to appreciate and interact with the natural environment in the playful way you did as a child. They use everyday materials, such as felt, to create the feeling of dressing up when you were younger, using any materials you have available.

The project surrounds mushrooms and their shapes, colours, and textures. Fungi fascinate Cerys as there are many types of mushrooms with a multitude of uses, from medicinal to decomposing pollutants, they provide an integral part of the ecosystem. The life cycle of mushrooms and fungi is interconnected with the ecosystems they grow in; therefore, it was only natural for Cerys to make their project a collaborative one. They worked with volunteers to design, create, model, and document the wearable art in local woodlands. This collaboration extends to the volunteers working with the environment, embracing the post-human merging of the body and nature, providing new relationships with the ecosystem.
