Cyrus Ho’s work utilizes both chance and automatic methods to explore themes of memory, self-reflection, and the unconscious. In this series 'Hypnagogia', he selected aspects of life from the past and present as themes, drawn into personal icons that came to mind and interpreted using automatic drawing. They were then torn into fragments and rearranged randomly into new compositions, then mimicked onto an enlarged surface where the process repeats. The fragmented and jumbled figures of ink drawings, somewhat familiar and recognizable, worked on with automatic drawing, act as a tool to simultaneously work and reflect on: finding rationality within the irrational and imagination, finding reasoning to how the present self is shaped and moulded.
