Inspired by nature and our relationship with our landscape, Milieu explores how we are shaped by our environment and the idea of past generations leaving traces of themselves in the landscape.
Mudflats or Intertidal Flats are incredibly important ecosystems, providing resources for animals as well as people residing near coasts.
These landscapes also affect the soil nutrient levels in the surrounding area which often improves agriculture.
The sculpture itself consists of mud, sand, natural debris, plaster, stonecast and PVA glue. Cast using my own clothing, the sculpture is a representation of me, growing and forming based on my environment and shaped by growing up in the local area.
The location I have chosen to work in, Hest Bank Beach is surrounded by farmland and cliffs which are beginning to collapse due to coastal erosion. My family has lived in this area for generations and I feel the traces of my ancestors in the land.
