Jamie has always shown interest in personifying plant life into human-like species. Her work in this exhibition is an animation which focuses on the idea of plant life having its own world, where they behave as humans do. She creates this animation using a mix of 2D digital animation, stock videos, sounds, and editing software. The animation juxtaposes our world and the plant world to demonstrate how humans are unaware of how plant life may be living in their world and vice versa. Through stock imagery, the piece speaks about the environmental issues, primarily deforestation, and how the creatures’ world is destroyed because of humans. Using rustling leaves sounds, the creatures talk to each other in their language, which is translated for the viewer on the screen. This connects the viewer to the creatures being able to understand them and relate to their emotions. Jamie’s work attempts to connect our world with plant life creatures to understand their perspective during a time of environmental issues.
