My practice deals with the idea of Dualism. A philosophical theory, brought by thinkers like Alan Watts, Heraclitus and artists like Hilma af Klint, which refers to the dualism of the good and the bad. The fact that one can not exist without the other, forming complete unity.
And that acknowledging this notion from a general perspective and bringing it down to our personal individual experiences, will enable us to truly live, by accepting and normalising rejection, frustration, sadness, and boredom.
Being aware that there is always going to be a bad side and learning from it, while making the best out of the good.
My work breaks with the conceptions of perfection. It is the result of a merging process, in which the symbol of The Flower of Life, and abstraction, come together, floating in a landscape of chromatic greys.
Its aim is to present a realistic view of life through the disruption/ fragmentation of the symbol of The Flower of Life, that comes from sacred geometry, which is associated with unrealistic and utopian beliefs, and conceptions regarding events that may or not happen in your life.
The abstract element is based on surrealist, eerie and dark symbols such as Salvador Dalí's. As the opposite of the flower, the abstract element refers to the bad side encompassed in life. To produce it, I use the technique of pour painting. Resulting in somewhat of a melting body, made of matter, giving the painting a surrealist quality.
The series therefore become a paradox, as I am trying to represent the realistic duality of life, through a surrealist approach.
