'Ode to Nostalgia'

Sophie’s work is a reflection of her childhood memories, drawing inspiration from confessional art. Through the medium of monoprinting she shares fleeting but unforgettable memories of her childhood, snapshots in time replicating old family photographs. She invites viewers in to share the experiences and memories that shaped her and allow them to reminisce on their own times that have passed. 

Sophie’s monoprints explore the intangible aspects of memories and the fading of the mind. The monoprints provide a grainy texture that works well with out of focus pictures and memories that are often just out of reach. It gives the work a sense of hazy nostalgia and creates a set of dreamlike images. We all have a desire to revisit moments from the past and the installation of the tiles making a largescale print embody the fragmentation of the mind and the piecing together of memories. We grasp a sense of grief and loss juxtaposed with happy memories through these less than perfect images. The monoprints work as a set to hold onto these elusive memories of our past that threaten to disappear.
